Admissions Process
When reviewing this admissions process please keep in mind that we at TLE are proud of being like a family. This does not mean we do not want new students, we do, as every year we experience attrition caused by students graduating, moving away etc. We want to replace these open spots with new students who can flourish in our environment -- share our values and willing to be part of a truly nurturing environment where they will be accepted and respected for who they are. This puts a special pressure on you, the student's parent, to ensure that we can offer what you expect. We are both interested in a win win solution.

The admissions process is not as complicated as it sounds:

Step 1: Gain Information about TLE
Here are a few steps:
- Review the information on this web site. Do not forget to view the 5 minute film clip from the school. It will take a while to get it loaded but we hope you will find the time worthwhile.
- Come to an information meeting; see the side bar for the next meeting.
- Arrange for an information meeting with John or Ellen. Call the office at 770-218-1790 or John's cell phone (he wears it all the time) 770-312-0180 to schedule the meeting. At this meeting you may come alone or bring your student. If you bring your student we suggest you come during class time so he/she can sit in class and have a chance to meet the other students.
- Talk to our parents and students.

Step 2: Send in an Application
In addition to the application form (click for a copy of the form) and check for the application fee, we would appreciate a short paper, written by you and your student, telling us why you want to join TLE. Please try to cover your expectations, why you want to join us, your prior experience, your student's aspirations after high school and his/her hobbies/interests outside school.

Step 3: Meeting 1: Assessment Meeting
Once we received your application we will schedule a meeting with you and your student. At this first meeting we will cover the following:
- A thorough assessment of your student. The assessment takes an hour and a half and gives all of us a better understanding of how your student learns, requirements for the learning environment, communication needs, etc. At the end of the assessment we will give you a glimpse of what we found. A more thorough report will given at our next meeting

Step 4: Meeting 2: Getting to Know One Another
At this second meeting we would like to see you both again, this time the meeting may take an hour. The objectives are:
- Share the assessment report with you. This is for you to take; it will give you a good understanding of your student's behavior, needs, and provide ways in which you can motivate him/her. It will also highlight what kind of a learning environment your student is most likely to thrive in. That is a major determining factor for whether your student will flourish at TLE.
- We want to get to know you and your student's heart and aspirations, using the paper from the application as a starting point. Do we offer the kind of the environment, academic courses and electives interested to your student. Once we see that we are an alternative to you student we want to explore if he/she has an issue or problem with authorities. What is the interaction between you and your student, how does he/she treat and respond to you his/her parents. Have there been situations in the past in other school settings where he/she has had difficulty with authorities. If he/she does not respect you as an authority he/she will not listen to us, and then we cannot make it work for him/her.
- And finally we would like to clarify any questions you may have.
- At the end of the meeting we will express our interest in your student or not, leaving the final decision to you and your student

Step 5: Your Decision
If you decide to enroll your student in TLE we suggest you give us a call and send in a check covering the book fee, which ensures you a place. Please note, that we will not accept more than 35 students, and first come first serve is the rule. If your enrollment check comes in too late, we will put you on the waiting list if you so wish and will inform you asap when an opening occurs.

If you decide not to enroll, we wish you the very best, and hope that we have given you a better insight into your student and how he/she can be successful.
